It was on June 22, 1962 that the Toronto section of the Bruce Trail was opened. To celebrate that historic event, we introduced the 60th anniversary badge. To date, more than 90 club members have received the badge, which will be available until next summer. We also want to celebrate our 60 years by introducing you for a bit of your club’s history during the past six decades.
By tapping into our archives, old Footnotes newsletter copies and AGM notes. We’ll explore, decade by decade, the changes that have been made over the years to preserve the trail and support the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s mission to: “Preserving a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever.” We also want to hear from you! Tell about your fondest memories of the past. Send in your old photos and stories to: information@torontobrucetrailclub.org
To document the many changes that happened during the first decade, here’s an overview of events from 1964-1974. During this time we evolved from a trail building club to a hiking club.
