Sunday October 5th is Bruce Trail Day, our annual celebration of the Bruce Trail!
This year our Toronto Club is doing the day a little differently. We will be celebrating at Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto. And we are going to make a weekend of it!
On Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5, find us at Toronto’s Evergreen Brickworks, where we’ll be celebrating the Bruce Trail from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you have never been to the Brickworks, this is the weekend to visit. Named one of the top 10 ecotourism destinations in the world by National Geographic, it is an ecological oasis in the heart of Toronto built from the remains of the Don Valley Brick Factory.
It played a significant role in the construction of many of Toronto’s iconic buildings, including Casa Loma, Massey Hall, and Old City Hall. After a century of operation, the site closed in 1989 and later became an immersive experience of community and sustainability. To read more about the Evergreen Brickworks and get directions, check out their website.
Join us at Evergreen Brickworks where we’ll be hosting hiking seminars, leading guided hikes with our volunteers, and offering treats, a raffle, and fun activities for kids. Come say hello, sign up for a hike to explore this urban ecological treasure, or register for our Hiking 101 Workshop—perfect for beginners eager to learn the basics of hiking.
Why isn’t the Toronto Club celebrating the Bruce Trail right on the trail this year, you might well ask. Truth be told – we are experimenting! We want to share the trail and its benefits to the GTA – we hope to get a bit more into the community now that Covid is well behind us this and this is our start.
We understand that not everyone will be able—or inclined—to make the trip into Toronto to celebrate. If you’re located closer to the trail and prefer to stay local, we encourage you to head out for a hike and bring a friend along to help us mark the occasion.
After all, Bruce Trail Day is all about the trail, protecting it, celebrating it, and sharing it with others.
