Volunteer
Volunteering with the Toronto Bruce Trail Club is a rewarding experience. You will be helping to protect the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, and you will engage with people in your community who share your interests.
Our community is 200 people strong. We play many roles, everything from maintaining our section of the Bruce Trail to leading hikes to running special events like the Club’s annual End-to-End. In the background are people who serve on the Club Board and its committees, manage its website, publish its newsletter, organize fund-raising events, and help build awareness of the Club in the greater community.
How to become a volunteer
Use our online application or send an email to our Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@torontobrucetrailclub.org, indicating your areas of interest.
We are regularly looking for the following roles:
- Event Volunteers
- Trail Volunteers
- Trail Captains
- Land Stewards
- Hike Leaders
- General Volunteers
Event Volunteers
We have many events scheduled for the hiking season where we need help spreading the word about the Toronto Bruce Trail Club and the benefits of joining the BTC. A great way to meet new people, talk about the Bruce Trail and get involved.
Trail Volunteers
There are a variety of roles available for trail volunteers. We recommend that you get started with our work parties – a great way to meet us and see what trail work is.
Trail Work Parties – scheduled work parties to maintain and update the trail. Scheduled from late spring to late fall. We build trail, paint blazes, maintain stairs and bridges.
Biodiversity Work Parties – scheduled work parties to enhance the biodiversity of BTC lands. This includes boot brush stations, seed collection, tree planting and invasive species removal.
Trail Captain – Trail Captains are responsible for a 1-4 km section of our trail, ensuring it remains safe and enjoyable for all users. The Toronto club typically places 4 trail captains in a year. Read more here: Trail Captains
Land Steward – Land stewards are the caregivers of Bruce Trail Conservancy owned and managed lands. Unlike trail captains who maintain the trail itself, stewards inspect entire properties. The Toronto club typically places 2 – 3 land stewards in a year. Read more here.
Hike Leaders
Interested in leading hikes with the Toronto Bruce Trail Club? All Toronto Bruce Trail Club hike leaders are both certified with Hike Ontario and First Aid Level C Certified. We will also coach you through the process if you are an enthusiastic hiker. Read more here: Hike Leader
